Life is difficult....

Does anyone else think life is harder now than it used to be years ago?  It seems with our advancements, we are busier, yet less active, need more money, but bring home less income due to increased deductions and the quandaries go on.  We really have put our children under a lot of pressure with the social "norms".

Why didn't we teach our children they would need to start their lives with less than they had become accustomed to living in our home?  Why do we, as parents, believe we need to provide luxuries to our grown children?  Why have we failed to teach them the value of earning these luxuries? Why are so many 30 somethings still living with parents while not contributing to the financial situation of the home?  What are we teaching our next generation and what's to become of us upon retirement?

Reality check:  Most of us cannot afford to live the lifestyle we are living currently, let alone providing the lifestyle to our grown children.  Yes, it's difficult.  What to do?

It pains me to see the employment situation for our recently graduated college and high school students.  It pains me to see my peers struggle with unemployment for prolonged periods.  For some, they simply won't settle for less than they were previously earning and will remain unemployed by choice.  For others, many companies fear hiring the "overqualified" because they will become bored in their position or leave when the next better job opens up.  The recent graduates are young, willing to work hard (I hope) and will accept a lesser paycheck to gain experience.  However, there are few available jobs in our area.

When I was recently out of work, it took me about six months of submitting five or more resumes almost every day.  This doesn't sound like a lot of work, but there are many companies with "on line" assessments.  One resume could take as much as two hours to submit.  Then there are the job fairs, the personal visits and the many interviews.  It's a career in itself looking for a job.

I don't profess to know the answer to our economic "crisis" (and for many, it still is a crisis), but we pray.  We pray for our family and friends seeking a job.  We believe God has a plan and it is a good one.  It's not always obvious to us what the plan is, but He has one.

Challenge for Today:  Pray for our country.  Pray for more jobs.  Pray for our recent college graduates seeking career positions (including my beautiful daughter and many of her friends).
