What are your "in spite of's"? Do you have them? I do.
In spite of my faults, my daughter is an amazing young woman - that's the most important. In spite of our lack of finances, she made it through college with minimal student loan debt through God's provision. In spite of my imperfections and lack of holiness, I continue to work in Christian ministry. In spite of my past, my future grows brighter daily.
I could go on and on. I am continually amazed by the blessings we experience in a world that seems to continually grow more dark and dismal. One would expect hopelessness to abound yet we find others who are hopeful.
Have you noticed it? It's easy to spot those losing their homes or recently losing the jobs they've been working at for many years - seriously, they are everywhere. But, if you listen closely and look carefully, many of those people are adapting quickly and remain hopeful about the future. Once the grief has been processed, they even sound excited about the possibilities. I love this outlook so much more than the victim stance. Victims see themselves without hope because they have freely given another human being or organization control, while the hopeful see a loving God as controller or have faith in their own ability to find a solution.
Challenge for today: Are you a victim? If so, seek counsel, find God (my best advice), and take responsibility for yourself. Stop allowing others to own you or circumstances to dictate your life. If it's always someone else's fault for you, you are probably a victim. Bad things happen to all of us, what are you going to do when it does?
