Accountability?

Wow, everyone is talking about "accountability" but no one really wants it.  Have you noticed?  We all like being the one to whom someone is accountable, but when it comes down to being the accountable, that's a whole other story!

What are we afraid of, do you think?  For me, it's mostly the distortion and miscommunication.  I do not desire to be accountable to those who tend to manipulate the truth or to those who seek to control.  There are many reasons.  Accountability does not have to be scary and we do not need to be accountable to everyone who wants us to be accountable.

Some basic rules I've developed for myself:

  • I am accountable to my employer only for my work and for any moral clause I've signed.
    • Do you know affairs are happening all the time and often in the workplace? Most employers do not consider this a problem until it interferes in profits - interesting world we live in.
  • I am accountable to my spouse for relationship, spending, and shared responsibilities in the home.
  • I am accountable to God for all of my life, choices and behaviors - my character.
  • Find a prayer partner who cares for, loves and respects me and who HEARS me, to whom I am accountable.  (This person may change throughout my lifetime as seasons change, people move, etc. but always have one.  For many years now, it has been the same person although she lives in another city - we phone often).
These are some of my personal boundaries and may not be the same as yours, but simply an example to help me stay sane.  Outside of these boundaries, I pray about input from others.  We receive so much input on what to eat, how to exercise, how to pray, how to speak, how to live, what movies to see, YIKES!!!!

TRUTH ALERT!!!!  If we all really knew how to fix each other, our own lives wouldn't be such a mess!!!  LOL....we are funny people and we star in Emmy winning situation comedies called "our lives".

Today's challenge:  If you do not have an accountability partner, pray about it.  Release your fears and find someone.  Ask God to open the door for you.  Confirm they are honest, and love you enough to speak truth to you.  If it's a good match, you will become more confident and blessed because of the friendship.
