As I clean my house, it prompts me to see we have too much stuff. You know, things we have to dust, vacuum, wash and dry, etc. It stirs in me a desire to host an estate sale now, while I'm still alive and well enough to enjoy sharing the stories behind much of the items for sale. Too many items collecting dust in my home and life.
I find my mind can fill up with stuff in a similar fashion. Pondering mistakes, past events, stressing over work or home issues causes my brain to collect dust and slow me down. At times, I get stuck thinking I'm responsible for others and this can place a load on my mind of considerable weight. Others have admitted to this same struggle throughout their lives; we are not alone.
Intentionally allowing others to be responsible for themselves and allowing them a safe, free venue for success or failure gives my brain a break. I do a bit of self talk reminding "me" of this regularly. It is important for all of us to have the freedom to make mistakes or to succeed. Most of us perform best when given space. We also mature and become equipped to live life productively.
Challenge for Today: Search your heart. Is there someone in your life needing space and freedom (age appropriate when referring to our children - you are still a parent!)? Give it to them. If they fail, bless them and encourage them to try again. If they succeed, give them applause and praise!
