I'm having one of those phases where I really don't want to do the basic things. You know, the details of life like laundry, cleaning, washing the car or car repairs. I would rather go to the park, get coffee with friends, take in a movie or play, or take a "fun" class like drawing. There simply isn't enough time in one lifetime to do the things I'd like to try.
I want a clean house, clean clothing, a clean car and my oil to be changed. But, I don't want to handle it. Silly, selfish, lazy and foolish attitude, I know. The basics in life must be done and I cannot squeeze my budget any tighter to manage paying someone to do these things for me. So, I'll need to be my own cheerleader and encourage myself to do the work. Get it done and reward myself with one fun activity.
My solution to balance work and play will be to make a "bucket list" of sorts. What do I want to do, learn, experience in 2011? I've already started by joining a Jazzercise class, completing my degree with on line college classes, writing this blog and serving on a local board. Hmmmm......if only I didn't need sleep? LOL....I've decided to accept I will always lean towards over-activity, but it beats sitting around watching television, right?
note for parents of younger kids: This bucket list may look different for you. Much of your time will be devoted to raising your children. But, if both parents are actively involved and work together, you can find one or two activities from your list that might be doable.
Lesson for today: Be who you are but stay balanced. Don't let freedom allow you to hurt others in the process of being you. Me not cleaning my house, hurts my family. God created you for a purpose and if you feel confident in your motivation - do it! There will always be those who "analyze your motives". Seek God, seek your heart intentions and if they align - do it! It may take working through schedules and others making a sacrifice, but it will be worth it!
