I planted pickerel, firefly crocus and some sort of potato water plant today. It was part of the county waterway project which our church partnered to support. I was hip deep in some pretty stinky water, sinking into the muck and digging six inch holes. It was so much fun!
Long term, the plants will help with keeping the water more clean as they filter the run off from surrounding lawns flowing into the canal which flows into several lakes. The project will continue to plant until each body of water is more fully protected and ecologically balanced again.
It's amazing how we are reversing what we, as a people, have destroyed. I like the process. Re-building, re-planting and re-viving our lands. Much like God works in our hearts, we have a hand in making our world a little bit safer, better and beautiful.
Challenge for today: Learn about one thing you can do to improve your environment. Plants, fish, butterflies, etc. are some examples of things you can do.
