This year has been a doozy....my daughter turned 21 in January and we celebrated with a weekend jaunt to New York City. Since then, I've joined the workforce again; started working on my marriage with great intent on succeeding this time; sent a foster son into the Army; and entered a senior year of high school with the remaining foster son.
I've watched and listened as our pastor and his family have walked through the death of a five year old grand daughter, daughter and sister - a vivid reminder of 1992, when I too walked through the death of a five year old daughter.
I've traveled to South Florida to share in the events of older relatives lives. Milestones, like a 90th birthday and worrisome moments, like a cancer diagnosis. Through it all, they smile and live in strength knowing there is more.
Ups and downs are part of life. There are so many times I wish there were more ups and less downs, but there are also times when I embrace the downs knowing I will come through it wiser and more resilient.
This year, I have lost friends, made new friends, kept some very dear friends and drawn nearer to family members. My income has reduced by over 40%, yet God continues to provide for all of us at this new level.
2011 is fast approaching and I find myself anticipating the new year with excitement and hope. I will embrace the ups and the downs equally. I will choose to rejoice always and seek God's plans even when it is difficult. I will choose to speak with Him, yell at Him and praise Him as my heart works through the things it must.
